If you have a big area then you’ll need to calculate the area of each section separately and then add them all together to know how much turf you need.

Here below are the four most common areas and how to calculate these areas.

Rectangle / Square

rectangle Formula: Area = Length x Width

So in this example:
4 metres x 9 metres = 36m2

Area = 36m2

Triangle

triangleFormula: Area = 1/2 (Base x Height)

So in this example:
3 metres x 8 metres = 24 metres
24 metres x 1/2 = 12m2

Area = 12m2

Circle

circleFormula: Area = Pi x Radius2

So in this example:
The radius2 = the radius is 4 metres so… 4 x 4 = 16
Pi = 3.142 (approx)
16 x 3.142 = 50.3 m2

Area = 50.3m2

Ellipse / Oval

elipseFormula: Area = Pi x (major / 2) x (minor / 2)

So in this example:
The major axis is 8m. Divide by half; 8 / 2 = 4
The minor axis is 5m. Divide by half; 5 / 2 = 2.5
Next you multiply them by Pi. Pi = 3.142 (approx)
Area = 3.142 x 4 x 2.5

Area = 31.4 m2
